Referring to your letter No. 3794/25 of the

8th September, regarding the contention of Mr. A. Pattison,

late Lance Sergeant, Hongkong Police, that his pension

should be regarded as a war disability pension for the

purposes of Income Tax, I have the honour to state that

we have been informed by the Departmental Claims Branch

of the Inland Revenue Department that Mr. Pattison's

pension has not previously been exempted under Section

16 of the Finance Act 1919, so far as they can

ascertain.

2. The Departmental Claims Branch has now asked

us to ascertain the precise circumstances under which

this pension was granted in order to enable the case

to be fully considered.
